The real magic of the Harry Potter books is that J.K. Rowling got kids to read a 700-page book. In her books, J.K. was telling kids all over the world that who they are is not dependent on the views of the people around them, and that kids have more power than they think – they just have to discover it on their own.
I thank John Granger (https://www.hogwartsprofessor.com) for analyzing the series in lectures given at the various Harry Potter conventions over the years. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, go and be entertained while you are being taught a lesson in literature. I have a much better understanding and appreciation of the Harry Potter series because of his lectures and books.

I told my kids that I was spending all of their inheritance but that they would inherit lots of photos of me having fun at Harry Potter conventions.
